Tom Price of Roswell was elected in 1996 to the State Senate from the 56th District, comprising portions of North Fulton, Cherokee, and Gwinnett counties.
A Republican, Price sits on the Health and Human Services Committee, the Insurance and Labor Committee, the Special Judiciary Committee, the Youth, Aging, and Human Ecology Committee, and the Reapportionment Committee. He is also the Secretary of the Senate Fulton County Delegation. Price was appointed by Lieutenant Governor Pierre Howard to a conference committee of both the House and Senate to address the Pharmacy Practice Act.
Price has successfully sponsored legislation to increase the safety of children being cared for in Home Childcare Facilities. He has emerged as a leader in the healthcare area co-sponsoring legislation in support of Medical Savings Accounts, restricting a Medicaid system. Price also attempted to introduce an amendment that would require criminals to serve at least 85% of their sentence. He sponsored legislation that would create a State Government Waste Task Force to end programs no longer effective or needed. Price has promoted competition in education , supporting a pilot program of school choice in the most impoverished districts.
Senator Price obtained his Bachelor�s and Doctor of Medicine degrees from the University of Michigan and completed a General Surgical Internship and Orthopaedic Surgical Residency at Emory University Affiliated Hospitals. He has been active in organized medicine and has been a positive advocate for patient�s rights and physician autonomy in medical decision-making. Senator Price also represents Georgia on the Health Care Task Force of the American Legislative Enterprise Council.
Price has been active in his community serving on the Boards of the North Metro YMCA, the Northside Bank, and the Rotary Club of Roswell. He founded North Fulton Orthopedic Clinic which has grown to become Compass Orthopaedics with 12 physicians and over 30 employees.
Senator Price lives with his wife, Elizabeth, and seven year old son, Robert, in Roswell. The Price'�s are active members of the Roswell Presbyterian Church , the Georgia Ensemble Theatre, and the Chattahoochee Nature Center.
