SR 407 LC 19 2795 A RESOLUTION 1- 1 Honoring Robin Fech; and for other purposes. 1- 2 WHEREAS, Ms. Robin Fech, an Atlantic Southeast Airline 1- 3 flight attendant and native of Athens, Georgia, captured the 1- 4 attention and hearts of all Georgians with her bravery and 1- 5 heroism in the face of the recent crash of an ASA commuter 1- 6 plane in Carrollton, Georgia, on August 21, 1995; and 1- 7 WHEREAS, ASA Flight 529, with 26 passengers, two pilots, and 1- 8 Ms. Fech as the flight attendant, crashed in a hay field 1- 9 near Carrollton, Georgia; and 1-10 WHEREAS, in the few terrifying seconds preceding the crash 1-11 in which Ms. Fech had to prepare the passengers, she 1-12 conducted herself with the utmost poise, composure, and 1-13 devotion to duty; and 1-14 WHEREAS, even as the small commuter plane descended 1-15 uncontrollably, she walked its aisle and asked each 1-16 passenger to demonstrate the emergency landing position; and 1-17 WHEREAS, her calm and reassuring but authoritative manner 1-18 forestalled chaos among the passengers and undoubtedly 1-19 helped to save lives; and 1-20 WHEREAS, upon impact, the plane broke into three pieces and 1-21 burst into flames; and 1-22 WHEREAS, at a time when a natural human reaction would be 1-23 fear and self-preservation, Ms. Fech put the needs of others 1-24 before her own, saving many after the crash with her heroic 1-25 and selfless acts; and 1-26 WHEREAS, steeling herself against the pain of her own 1-27 injuries and the dangers of fire and explosions, Ms. Fech 1-28 plunged back into the burning wreckage to help rescue and 1-29 comfort the surviving passengers; and 1-30 WHEREAS, although she suffered a broken arm, a cracked rib, 1-31 leg burns, a knee injury, and serious cuts and bruises, she 1-32 never lost her focus or relinquished her duties as flight 1-33 attendant; and -1- (Index) LC 19 2795 2- 1 WHEREAS, in a time of too few heroes, Ms. Fech's actions are 2- 2 an inspiration to us all, as well as a reminder of the 2- 3 glorious good that remains in our society; and 2- 4 WHEREAS, Robin Fech's remarkable courage and exceptional dd d�py@dpy@dipy@d�py@d7py@d�py@d 2- 6 commendation. 2- 7 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the 2- 8 members of this body commend Robin Fech of Warner Robins, 2- 9 Georgia, for her lifesaving heroic actions as the flight 2-10 attendant for Atlanta Southeast Airlines' Flight 529 on 2-11 August 21, 1995, and honor her for her inspiring and 2-12 selfless devotion to duty and to helping others. 2-13 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is 2-14 authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of 2-15 this resolution to Robin Fech. -2- (Index)
