SR 31 95 LC 25 0002 SENATE RESOLUTION 31 By: Senators Isakson of the 21st, Broun of the 46th, Edge of the 28th and Land of the 16th A RESOLUTION 1- 1 Commending Eric Zeier; and for other purposes. 1- 2 WHEREAS, Eric Zeier is a student athlete in the truest sense 1- 3 of the phrase; and 1- 4 WHEREAS, Eric Zeier came to Cobb County and Marietta High 1- 5 School to lead the Blue Devils as their football 1- 6 quarterback; and 1- 7 WHEREAS, Eric Zeier completed 136 of 231 passes for 2,484 1- 8 yards and 28 touchdowns as a senior at Marietta, and was 1- 9 named High School Athlete of the Year by the Georgia Sports 1-10 Hall of Fame in 1990; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Eric Zeier chose the University of Georgia over 1-12 hundreds of other colleges and universities as the place at 1-13 which to pursue his collegiate academic and athletic careers 1-14 and entered the university in 1991 under the 1-15 joint-enrollment program for outstanding high school 1-16 students; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Eric Zeier, during his four-year athletic career as 1-18 a University of Georgia Bulldog, completed 838 passes for 1-19 11,153 career passing yards and 67 touchdowns and was 1-20 responsible for 10,841 total offense yards gained; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Eric Zeier leads the Southeastern Conference in 1-22 passing yards gained in a career, leads the Southeastern 1-23 Conference in number of total offense yards gained in a 1-24 career, leads the Southeastern Conference in number of pass 1-25 completions in a career, leads the Southeastern Conference 1-26 in percentage of passes completed in a single season, and is 1-27 ranked third highest in the history of Division I of the 1-28 National Collegiate Athletic Association in passing yards 1-29 gained in a career; and 1-30 WHEREAS, Eric Zeier led the Bulldogs to impressive 1-31 postseason bowl game victories over Arkansas in the 1-32 Independence Bowl and Ohio State in the Citrus Bowl; and 1-33 WHEREAS, Eric Zeier continually exhibited great leadership 1-34 and strength in the face of adversity, including leading the S. R. 31 -1- (Index) LC 25 0002 2- 1 Bulldogs to halt Auburn's 1993-94 unbeaten, untied stretch; 2- 2 and 2- 3 WHEREAS, Eric Zeier achieved success in scholastics as well 2- 4 as athletics at the University of Georgia and was named to 2- 5 the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll. 2- 6 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that Eric Zeier 2- 7 is commended for his personal achievements and great 2- 8 contribution to the University of Georgia and the people of 2- 9 this state. 2-10 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is 2-11 authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of 2-12 this resolution to Mr. Eric Zeier.
