SR 29 95 LC 8 2314 SENATE RESOLUTION 29 By: Senator Griffin of the 25th A RESOLUTION 1- 1 Designating 1995 as the Year of the Family in Georgia; and 1- 2 for other purposes. 1- 3 WHEREAS, considerable national attention has focused on the 1- 4 disintegration of family and community values and supports 1- 5 in the United States and the impact such deprivation has had 1- 6 on families and their children across all racial and income 1- 7 groups; and 1- 8 WHEREAS, the astounding incidence of family violence 1- 9 including violent conduct between spouses, neglect of the 1-10 elderly, abusive treatment of children, and brutal 1-11 aggression among youths serves notice that the family is in 1-12 crisis; and 1-13 WHEREAS, parents are the most important determinants of 1-14 their children's values and well-being, but their crucial 1-15 role of nurturing the next generation needs to be endorsed 1-16 and supported by their communities, their employers, and 1-17 their governments at all levels; and 1-18 WHEREAS, the future of Georgia's families demands that 1-19 attention be redefined and resources redirected to ensure 1-20 proper care for the elderly, promote the development of 1-21 children, and encourage safe, stable families; and 1-22 WHEREAS, parents and families need help in their struggles 1-23 to heal their pain, to change their behavior, and to create 1-24 harmony where discord, injury, and outrage have prevailed; 1-25 and 1-26 WHEREAS, the collective efforts of local communities are 1-27 critical ingredients in the task of reducing crime in cities 1-28 and neighborhoods, strengthening and improving the 1-29 educational process, and fostering compassion and tolerance 1-30 among people; and 1-31 WHEREAS, citizens throughout the State of Georgia are 1-32 committed to community initiative and action to reverse the 1-33 further disintegration of the family and the community, and 1-34 their efforts and energy merit recognition and praise.
