HR 862 LC 24 0312 A RESOLUTION 1- 1 Commending founder, historian, and author, John L. Ginn, 1- 2 Sr.; and for other purposes. 1- 3 WHEREAS, in January, 1990, John L. Ginn placed an 1- 4 advertisement in the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) 1- 5 magazine requesting that anyone having served at Sugamo 1- 6 Prison, Tokyo, Japan, please contact him; and 1- 7 WHEREAS, by May, 1991, 22 men who had served at Sugamo 1- 8 Prison with John L. Ginn had been located and 16 of them met 1- 9 at Nashville, Tennessee, for the first reunion, thus forming 1-10 the Sugamo Prison Association; and 1-11 WHEREAS, the purpose of the Sugamo Prison Association is to 1-12 support the armed forces of the United States of America in 1-13 the defense of this great nation, to support the activities 1-14 of those groups searching for the truth in POW/MIA issues, 1-15 to locate all surviving ex-servicemen from the 2,328 who 1-16 served at Sugamo Prison from late 1945 through 1952, and to 1-17 promote World War II history and the meaning of the 1-18 resulting freedom for all our citizens; and 1-19 WHEREAS, through Mr. Ginn's books, Sugamo Prison, Tokyo and 1-20 The Unknown Japanese War Criminals of WWII, and the efforts 1-21 of Alfred V. Dearman, computer research chairman, and Robert 1-22 F. Jones, membership chairman, and others, almost 500 1-23 ex-Sugamo servicemen have been located; and 1-24 WHEREAS, the founder, historian, and author, John L. Ginn, 1-25 Sr., has the profound gratitude and appreciation of the men 1-26 who served with him at the Sugamo Prison Garrison, Eighth 1-27 Army, Tokyo, Japan. 1-28 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 1-29 REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend John 1-30 L. Ginn, Sr., on his efforts to locate those who served at 1-31 Sugamo Prison. 1-32 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of 1-33 Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an 1-34 appropriate copy of this resolution to the Governor of 1-35 Georgia to be presented by him to the Eastern Sugamo Prison 1-36 Association. -1- (Index)
