A RESOLUTION
1- 1 Recognizing African American entrepreneurs and proclaiming
1- 2 the second Thursday in February as "African American
1- 3 Business Enterprise Day"; and for other purposes.
1- 4 WHEREAS, African American businesses have made significant
1- 5 contributions to the progress and growth of the State of
1- 6 Georgia; and
1- 7 WHEREAS, with ingenuity born of adversity and perserverance
1- 8 stemming from hardship, African American entrepreneurs have
1- 9 created a vast and diverse array of business enterprises in
1-10 this state; and
1-11 WHEREAS, with successful enterprises ranging from small
1-12 businesses to major corporations, African American
1-13 entrepreneurs have uniquely influenced the business culture
1-14 of this state and have built an enduring legacy of success
1-15 for future generations; and
1-16 WHEREAS, despite formidable obstacles which inhibit the
1-17 growth of African American businesses, including the
1-18 documented disparity of minority business enterprise
1-19 participation in state contracts, the State of Georgia has
1-20 been served greatly by the contributions of African American
1-21 businesses; and
1-22 WHEREAS, success in the face of adversity has always been
1-23 worthy of recognition and celebration.
1-24 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY that
1-25 the members of this body recognize the outstanding service
1-26 and contributions which African American entrepreneurs have
1-27 made to the State of Georgia and proclaim the second
1-28 Thursday of February as "African American Business
1-29 Enterprise Day."
