HR 1257 LC 10 1782 A RESOLUTION 1- 1 Commending Mr. Richard H. Ray and Mr. Patrick R. Nugent, 1- 2 owners of the Macon Whoopee, and welcoming the Southern 1- 3 Hockey League franchise to Macon, Georgia; and for other 1- 4 purposes. 1- 5 WHEREAS, the Macon Whoopees were a member of the Southern 1- 6 Hockey League 22 years ago; and 1- 7 WHEREAS, Mr. Richard H. Ray and Mr. Patrick R. Nugent, 1- 8 owners of the Macon Whoopee, are bringing a hockey franchise 1- 9 back to Macon in time for the 1996-97 hockey season; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Mr. Ray, from Virginia Beach, Virginia, has an MBA 1-11 from the college of William and Mary and has been very 1-12 successful in making struggling companies profitable and in 1-13 start-up ventures; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Mr. Nugent, from Chesapeake, Virginia, spent 15 1-15 years in Major League Baseball, including service as the 1-16 assistant general manager of the Atlanta Braves, and has 1-17 served as the general manager of the Hampton Roads Admirals 1-18 hockey team for four years; and 1-19 WHEREAS, the name of the team will be the Macon Whoopee, and 1-20 the team will again be a member of the Southern Hockey 1-21 League; and 1-22 WHEREAS, the Whoopee will have a 32 game home schedule from 1-23 October 24, 1996, to March 31, 1997, and will play all home 1-24 games in the Macon Centreplex; and 1-25 WHEREAS, the other teams in the Southern Hockey League for 1-26 the 1996-97 season include the Daytona Beach Breakers, 1-27 Huntsville Channel Cats, Jacksonville Bullets, Lakeland 1-28 Prowlers, West Palm Beach Barracudas, Winston-Salem 1-29 Mammoths, and the Columbus Cottonmouths; and 1-30 WHEREAS, ice hockey, with its fast pace and constant action 1-31 and thrills, is one of the most popular and fastest growing 1-32 sports in this country; and 1-33 WHEREAS, the people of Middle Georgia are privileged to have N a professional hockey team and are encouraged to support the 1-35 Whoopee and enjoy the excitement it will bring. -1- (Index) LC 10 1782 2- 1 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 2- 2 REPRESENTATIVES that this body commends Mr. Richard H. Ray 2- 3 and Mr. Patrick R.
