HB 581 LC 24 0011 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT 1- 1 To amend Part 1 of Article 7 of Chapter 13 of Title 9 of the 1- 2 Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to 1- 3 advertisement of judicial sales, so as to provide for 1- 4 changes in the statutory rates for legal advertising; to 1- 5 provide that certain procedures for computing and charging 1- 6 statutory rates for legal advertising shall be clarified; to 1- 7 provide for related matters; to repeal conflicting laws; and 1- 8 for other purposes. 1- 9 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA: SECTION 1. 1-10 Part 1 of Article 7 of Chapter 13 of Title 9 of the Official 1-11 Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to advertisement of 1-12 judicial sales, is amended by striking Code Section 1-13 9-13-143, relating to rates for legal advertisements, and 1-14 inserting in its place a new Code Section 9-13-143 to read 1-15 as follows: 1-16 "9-13-143. (Index) 1-17 (a) The rates to be allowed to publishers for publishing 1-18 legal advertisements shall be as follows: 1-19 (1) For each 100 words, not more than the sum of $8.00 1-20 $10.00 for each insertion for the first four insertions; 1-21 (2) For each subsequent insertion, not more than the sum 1-22 of $7.00 $9.00 per 100 words. 1-23 In all cases fractional parts shall be charged for at the 1-24 same rates. 1-25 (b) For the purpose of the computation in subsection (a) 1-26 of this Code section, a block of numbers or a block of 1-27 letters and numbers shall be counted as one word. If the 1-28 block of numbers or letters or any combination thereof 1-29 contains a hyphen, a semicolon, a colon, or other similar 1-30 character or punctuation mark, the block shall still be 1-31 counted as one word, provided there are no intervening -1- (Index) LC 24 0011 2- 1 spaces. When an intervening space does occur, this space 2- 2 shall mark the start of a new word. 2- 3 (b)(c) No judge of the probate court, sheriff, coroner, 2- 4 clerk, marshal, or other officer shall receive or collect 2- 5 from the parties, plaintiff or defendant, other or greater 2- 6 rates than set forth in this Code section." SECTION 2. 2- 7 All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are 2- 8 repealed. -2- (Index)
