HB 1362 LC 22 1975 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT 1- 1 To amend Code Section 20-2-142 of the Official Code of 1- 2 Georgia Annotated, relating to prescribed courses in public 1- 3 schools, so as to provide that contractors, officials, 1- 4 agents, or other appropriate representatives of the 1- 5 Department of Public Safety may teach the alcohol and drug 1- 6 course; to provide for related matters; to provide an 1- 7 effective date; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other 1- 8 purposes. 1- 9 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA: SECTION 1. 1-10 Code Section 20-2-142 of the Official Code of Georgia 1-11 Annotated, relating to prescribed courses in public schools, 1-12 is amended by striking in its entirety paragraph (1) of 1-13 subsection (b) and inserting in lieu thereof the following: 1-14 "(b)(1) The State Board of Education and the Board of 1-15 Public Safety shall jointly establish an alcohol and 1-16 drug course for the purpose of informing the young 1-17 people of this state of the dangers involved in 1-18 consuming alcohol or certain drugs in connection with 1-19 the operation of a motor vehicle. The course shall be 1-20 designed to generate greater interest in highway safety 1-21 and accident prevention. The state board and the Board 1-22 of Public Safety shall jointly, by rules or regulations, 1-23 determine the contents of the course and its duration. 1-24 The Board Commissioner of Public Safety shall make 1-25 available officers, or employees, officials, agents, 1-26 contractors, or other appropriate representatives as 1-27 determined by the commissioner of the Department of 1-28 Public Safety to teach the alcohol and drug course. The 1-29 alcohol and drug course shall be offered periodically 1-30 but not less than once annually in the public schools of 1-31 this state to students in grades nine and above in the 1-32 manner prescribed by the state board." -1- (Index) LC 22 1975 SECTION 2. 2- 1 This Act shall become effective upon its approval by the 2- 2 Governor or upon its becoming law without such approval. SECTION 3. 2- 3 All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are 2- 4 repealed. -2- (Index)
