HB 1214 HB 1214/CA H. B. No. 1214 (AM) By: Representatives Stancil of the 16th, Trense of the 44th, Purcell of the 147th, Godbee of the 145th and Pinholster of the 15th A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT 1- 1 To amend Code Section 20-2-1183 of the Official Code of 1- 2 Georgia Annotated, relating to the prohibition of pocket 1- 3 pagers or electronic communication devices in school, so as 1- 4 to permit the carrying of such devices under board of 1- 5 education policy; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other 1- 6 purposes. 1- 7 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA: SECTION 1. 1- 8 Code Section 20-2-1183 of the Official Code of Georgia 1- 9 Annotated, relating to the prohibition of pocket pagers or 1-10 electronic communication devices in school, is amended by 1-11 striking subsection (a) and inserting in its place a new 1-12 subsection (a) to read as follows: 1-13 "(a) No area, county, or independent board of education 1-14 shall permit any pupil to carry a pocket pager or 1-15 electronic communication device in school except for 1-16 health or other unusual reasons unless the carrying of 1-17 such pagers or devices is permitted by board of education 1-18 policy approved by the such board of education." SECTION 2. 1-19 All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are 1-20 repealed. H. B. No. 1214 -1- (Index)
