HB 1085 LC 10 1065 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT 1- 1 To amend Article 2 of Chapter 10 of Title 17 of the Official 1- 2 Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to the death penalty, so 1- 3 as to provide that the Department of Corrections shall make 1- 4 suitable arrangements and provide suitable facilities to 1- 5 allow any public or private television broadcaster to 1- 6 televise executions; to provide that the State Board of 1- 7 Education shall arrange for the televising of executions as 1- 8 a part of the public broadcasting of the state-wide network 1- 9 of public school educational television stations; to provide 1-10 for all related matters; to repeal conflicting laws; and for 1-11 other purposes. 1-12 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA: SECTION 1. 1-13 Article 2 of Chapter 10 of Title 17 of the Official Code of 1-14 Georgia Annotated, relating to the death penalty, is amended 1-15 by adding a new Code Section 17-10-45 to read as follows: 1-16 "17-10-45. (Index) 1-17 (a) The Department of Corrections shall make suitable 1-18 arrangements and provide suitable facilities to allow any 1-19 public or private television broadcaster to televise any 1-20 execution carried out by the department. 1-21 (b) The State Board of Education shall arrange for the 1-22 televising of each execution carried out by the Department 1-23 of Corrections as a part of the public broadcasting of the 1-24 state-wide network of public school educational television 1-25 stations." SECTION 2. 1-26 All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are 1-27 repealed. -1- (Index)
