The Office of Legislative Counsel is a joint office of the General Assembly of Georgia. The office serves as in-house legal counsel for the General Assembly and provides services to all members in their official capacities on a strictly confidential, nonpartisan, and non-advocacy basis. Primary responsibilities include drafting legislation, counseling legislators and legislative committees, preparing legal opinions on statutory interpretation and constitutionality, legal research, and legal editorial work. The office also serves as staff for the Georgia Code Revision Commission. The office is under the direction of the Legislative Counsel, who is elected by the Legislative Services Committee.
